Smith sponsors local high school students as House pages
10th District high school students James Carlton and Christoph Schuster recently traveled to Olympia to serve as pages in the Washington State House of Representatives. They were sponsored by Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton.
Carlton is a student at La Conner High School, while Schuster attends South Whidbey High School.
During their week serving in the House Page Program, the students attended page school every day to understand the inner workings of the Legislature. They also learned to navigate the various buildings on the Capitol Campus, and delivered messages and documents to legislators and staff.
“It was an honor to sponsor James and Christoph as pages,” said Smith. “They're both great young men with bright futures, and I admire their commitment to spending the week here learning more about how their state government operates. I thank them both for their service.”
To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages earn $35 per day while serving in the program. For more information about the House Page Program, click here.
