Smith committee assignments are Technology and Economic Development, Capital Budget and Higher Education
Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, will continue to be the lead for her caucus on economic development issues and will serve as the ranking Republican on the House Technology and Economic Development Committee in the upcoming session. Smith says that is where she wants to be, and is excited for the opportunity.
“Improving Washington's business climate to promote job creation and economic opportunity is essential for our families and communities,” Smith said. “A sustainable economic recovery is crucial to providing the prioritized services important to us all.”
Smith will also continue to serve on the House Capital Budget Committee.
“I believe my past experience benefits the people of the 10th District, and I am pleased to continue working on issues related to funding critical infrastructure,” Smith said.
Smith also received a new committee assignment for the upcoming session and will be serving on the House Higher Education Committee.
“Higher education is a critical piece of our future. It is important that Washington students are prepared for the jobs of tomorrow, are trained here in Washington state, and are a priority of the Legislature. We have world-class higher education institutions – from our universities to our community colleges and technical schools. We must make the investments necessary for continued success.” The 2013 legislative session begins Monday, Jan. 14, and is scheduled for 105-days.
