Thank you for signing up for my weekly legislative updates. During the legislative session, these are an effective way for me to keep you up-to-date on important things happening in Olympia. With the 2012 legislative session underway, it is important that you know I am here to serve you during the challenging session we have ahead of us. You can read my statement on the opening of session here.
I will continue to send regular updates from Olympia throughout the legislative session to keep you informed on the business of the Legislature. In addition, I will be attaching the links to important source documents so that you have direct access to factual information rather than news cycle 'soundbites.'
Two great examples are presentations shared with us during the House Community and Economic Development Committee meeting Monday. Dr. Arun Raha, executive director of the Economic Revenue Forecast Council, gave us an update on the state's revenue, the challenges facing our economy, and how Europe's fiscal crisis ties into our financial situation. We received encouraging news in a presentation from Drew Magill, Director of Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It was great to hear the strong long-term outlook for one of our largest employers. Our aerospace sector is comprised of more than 600 businesses across the state, so the growth in commercial air demand worldwide has a direct result and broad impacts on one of our primary industry clusters, their employees, and those looking for career opportunities in aerospace.
