Stanwood siblings serve as legislative pages for Rep. Norma Smith

Amanda and Lynette Bye served as legislative pages for the House of Representatives March 8-11. The siblings are the daughters of Joy and Gary Bye. They were sponsored by their 10th District State Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton.
As part of their page duties, the teenagers delivered messages and documents to legislators in their offices and on the House floor. Their work also included climbing hundreds of stairs each day and navigating the many buildings on the capitol campus and attending daily classes to learn about the legislative process.
Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the legislative page program. Students spend a week attending page school, learning the inner workings of state government and assisting legislators on the House floor.
To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For more information about the legislative page program, visit: http://www.leg.wa.gov/PageSchool/Pages/default.aspx.
