Rep. Norma Smith invites constituents to take part in community call May 12

Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, will host a 10th Legislative District telephone town hall meeting Tuesday, May 12, from 7 to 8 p.m. Residents around the district are invited to participate in the call.
Constituents can call in toll-free at 1-877-229-8493, then enter PIN 14881. The program works much like a call-in radio show, where participants ask questions of Smith during the hour.
“I received so much feedback the final week of the legislative session, I decided to organize another community call to update everyone on the status of the budgets and possible future legislative action,” Smith said. “My hope is this format is convenient for busy folks and allows constituents a different way to communicate ideas and concerns with me.”
The topics for the call are dictated by constituent questions, Smith noted. However, Smith will give a brief update on the state budget, issues she worked on during the legislative session, and the topics that received the most feedback from 10th District residents.
“I welcome any and all legislative questions,” Smith said. “If I don’t have the answer, I will find the information and follow up with constituents. I’m not sending out a printed newsletter this year as a cost-saving measure, and so I want to make sure everyone knows I am accessible and able to assist constituents as needed.”
The 2009 legislative session began Jan. 12 and adjourned April 26. A special legislative session may be called by the governor at any time.
